THE LESTER PROPERTY
The property that is today known as the Lester homestead was formally used as common ground where early settlers grazed their sheep and cattle in the 1700's. The property would remain used this way until the late 18th - early 19th century when the Dominy family bought the land and erected a wind-powered sawmill for their furniture and clockmaking business. In the 1870's Selah Lester bought the property from Cybil Dominy and moved his newly bought 18th century farmhouse to the property from its previous lot in Amagansett. The museum is in the original house that Selah Lester bought.
